New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields went down with an injury at training camp before the preseason even started. And although we don’t know the extent of the injury yet, ESPN’s Mike Greenberg is already fearing the worst.
Greenberg has always worn his Jets fandom on his sleeve. And in recent years that has led to many moments of false hope, crushing defeats, and a lot of misery.
But if you thought the Jets were cursed through the close calls of Rex Ryan, the buttfumble of Mark Sanchez, or the disastrous tenure of Aaron Rodgers, then the latest news only gave more credence to that theory.
Fields was carted off with an apparent leg injury after being pressured in the pocket according to Adam Schefter and others, which is not a good sign at all.

And in sharing the news on Thursday morning’s Get Up, Greenberg was in disbelief as he reported on the Justin Fields injury like he was reading a hostage note.
Mike Greenberg reacts live to reports of Justin Fields’ injury: “I turn to others to speak on my behalf, because quite candidly, if I were to speak right now, I don’t know how well that would go for anyone. It is the first freaking day of practice, they aren’t even in pads, and… pic.twitter.com/y11qUfySBn

“We’re back on Get Up. I am speechless. I don’t know how to put into words how frustrating I am, or frustrated I am to read to you what I’m about to read to you,” Greenberg said. “From New York Jets training camp, quarterback Justin Fields has been carted off the field and taken to the locker room after being pressured on an incomplete pass. He has an apparent leg injury. He walked on his own power after getting back inside the facility.”
“The tone of all the tweets I am seeing from the people who are there make it sound like this is something bad. And I turn to others to speak on my behalf, because quite candidly, if I were to speak right now, I don’t know how well that would go for anyone. It is the first freaking day of practice, they aren’t even in pads, and Justin Fields is being carted off the field,” Greenberg said.
Fields is the latest hope for turning the Jets franchise around. The dual-threat quarterback has been polarizing ever since he entered the league, but hopes were that being firmly established as the #1 option in New York could see him flourish. After all, any quarterback deserves a fair shot after starting their career with the Bears.
Hopefully it’s not over before it started for Justin Fields before he could even take the field for the New York Jets. Even Aaron Rodgers got one play before his Achilles injury wrecked his tenure.
