Viewers of Friday night’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl realized that Matt Barrie — who was calling the game for ESPN — is likely not a fan of mayonnaise. Or at the very least, Barrie is careful about what he puts mayo on.

Early in the second quarter, Barrie and his broadcast partner, color analyst Aaron Murray, were called upon to do a taste test — Dilly Bar ice cream (though Barrie called it a “Dove chocolate bar”) dipped in Mayo. While it wasn’t bad for Murray, it was quickly clear that Barrie was not having it.

The play-by-play man quickly put the bar down on the desk, grabbed the garbage can at his feet and spit the “treat” out.

After several seconds of silence, Barrie could be heard trying to get the taste out of his mouth. Murray was the first one to speak after the taste test.

“It really is not bad,” Murray said.

“Dude it is awful,” Barrie replied.

“It is not really bad,” Murray affirmed.

“What is your problem?” Barrie said.

“I kinda like it,” Murray said. “I love ice cream so much. That’s my problem.”

“You know what’s amazing? Is Mullen was saying the same thing,” Barrie said, referencing his former broadcast partner and new UNLV coach, Dan Mullen.

“That was hideous,” Barrie added.

To each his own. But just a reminder to everyone out there. Even if you like the taste of two different things, they may not go well together.
