Two days after Marcus Morris was arrested and charged with fraud, we’re now learning more about the circumstances surrounding the situation.
According to TMZ, prosecutors claim that the former NBA forward stole a combined $265,000 from two prominent Las Vegas casinos. Court documents obtained by the outlet allege that Morris received $115,000 from the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino via a bad check in May 2024 and never paid the amount back after his check bounced. It is also alleged that Morris performed a “similar scheme” a month later, this time netting $150,000 through a check that didn’t cash.
Morris was taken into custody at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida on Sunday over two separate warrants connected to the alleged incidents. He has remained in custody while awaiting extradition, with both his twin brother, fellow former NBA forward Markieff Morris, and agent downplaying the arrest on social media.
“Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell,” Yony Noy, who represents both Morris brothers, wrote on X. “This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!”

Per TMZ, Marcus Morris made a court appearance on Tuesday, with his attorney arguing that he was in the process of paying off his debts and that releasing him from custody would expedite his extradition to Nevada. The judge, however, denied the request, stating that she would only release him to Nevada authorities or if the arrest warrants were withdrawn.
Originally selected by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, the 35-year-old Morris spent 13 seasons in the NBA, with his most recent action coming as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2024. He has recently served as a guest NBA analyst for ESPN, making regular appearances on programs such as Get Up and First Take throughout the 2025 NBA playoffs.
