Longtime SportsCenter anchor Linda Cohn is facing some uncertainty in her ESPN career.
According to a report by Richard Deitsch of The Athletic, Cohn remains under contract with ESPN despite the Los Angeles edition of SportsCenter coming to an end earlier this year. Her colleague, Stan Verrett, who co-hosted the late-night edition of ESPN’s flagship news show alongside Cohn, is leaving the network this summer. Per an ESPN spokesperson speaking with The Athletic, Cohn’s future assignments are “still being determined, but we should know soon.”
Back in 2022, Cohn signed a multi-year contract extension with ESPN shortly after celebrating her 30th anniversary with the Worldwide Leader.
It’s unclear what Cohn’s new role with the network would be. ESPN has substantially pared down its Los Angeles operations after moving the 1 a.m. ET SportsCenter to its Bristol, Connecticut headquarters. Per Front Office Sports, the network told 13% of its Los Angeles-based staff, or about 35 employees, they would need to relocate to Bristol or risk losing their jobs.
Last year, Cohn took a new job with the Seattle Kraken and hosted 15 games for the Kraken Hockey Network. Perhaps she can expand that role without anymore SportsCenter commitments. But even still, her responsibilities at ESPN are still very much in question.
