ESPN’s NBA Today tackled a hot topic Friday, discussing the biggest NBA All-Star Game snub, and Kendrick Perkins used the opportunity to take a shot at Steph Curry.
The All-Star reserves were announced Thursday. Curry, who had previously been announced as a starter for the Western Conference, will make his 11th All-Star appearance.
Perkins said Curry didn’t “earn” the spot.
“I look at a guy like Steph Curry making the All-Star Game this season,” Perkins said, “and I look at a lot of guys like Kyrie Irving, Devin Booker, De’Aaron Fox, just in this [Western] conference … who are playing better than him. Look, I’m going to say the quiet thing out loud — Steph Curry should not be an All-Star. He shouldn’t.
“No matter what the fans want, no matter what the coaches want, no matter who we want to see, still, you have to earn being an All-Star by your production, and if you’re looking at the production around the league, there’s guys in the Western Conference that have better numbers than Steph, and their teams are in better positions than Steph. … Am I lying?”

NBA All-Star starters are chosen by a vote of fans, players and media. Curry remains one of the most popular players in the sport, even though some stars have better numbers this season.
Yet Curry, 36, has played well, with points, rebounds and assists per game and his 3-point shooting percentage all close to his career averages. This is not like 41-year-old Kareem Abdul-Jabbar being an All-Star in his final season while averaging around 10 points per game.
Plus, the All-Star Game is at the Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center. It would have been impossible not to include Curry this year.
