One of the biggest sports media stories this year as the major wave of layoffs that hit ESPN. A complex aspect of those layoffs is that not many ESPN personalities have resurfaced elsewhere as many people have non-compete clauses and ESPN is paying them to sit at home.

The next steps for many of those affected by the large scale layoffs at ESPN have been quite diverse. Ed Werder has a new podcast, former anchor Prim Siripipat is even pursuing a professional tennis career, and Jayson Stark recently showed up on MLB Network, .

Now we know what one more former ESPNer will be up to this fall – veteran NFL reporter John Clayton. In Clayton’s case, the Slayer fanatic was already working as a radio host for the ESPN Radio affiliate in Seattle. And this football season he will add on another role as a sideline reporter for the outlet’s Seahawks broadcasts.

The Seattle Seahawks announced today their 2017 broadcast and network information. Play-by-play announcer Curt Menefee joins former Seahawks quarterback Brock Huard for Seahawks preseason telecasts on Q13 FOX, the official television partner of the Seattle Seahawks. On the Delta Air Lines Radio Network, Steve Raible and Warren Moon will call the action with Jen Mueller and John Clayton as sideline reporters on 710 ESPN Seattle and KIRO Radio 97.3 FM during the preseason and regular season. Dori Monson hosts the Seahawks pre and postgame shows with Jordan Babineaux, Paul Moyer, Ray Roberts, and Dave Wyman

John Clayton begins his first year as sideline reporter. He is currently a radio host on 710 ESPN Seattle and spent the last 23 years with ESPN. Prior to joining ESPN, Clayton began his career as a sportswriter in Pittsburgh before moving to Seattle to join the Seahawks beat for the Tacoma News Tribune in 1986.

Clayton has had a longtime presence in Seattle (over 30 years!) and was based there throughout his ESPN tenure. Given his previous reporting experience, it’s a great edition to the Seahawks broadcast team.
