Saturday night’s playoff game between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions aired on Fox and thus, featured the announce team of Kevin Burkhardt and Tom Brady. That was welcome news to Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey — who didn’t have to work to avoid Joe Buck.

One of the more interesting side plots of that game was what Brady, might say about Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and especially offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who were two of the leading candidates for head coaching jobs. In addition to being Fox’s lead color analyst, Brady is also part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders — who are looking for a head coach. That could have given the Raiders an inside track to Johnson, who the Bears ultimately hired as their head coach.

But McCaskey was not worried about that. He was just happy to not have to listen to Joe Buck.

“I don’t care who they put on,” McCaskey said, per Jason Lieser, Chicago Sun-Times, “When Joe Buck’s on, I turn the sound down.”

Brady addressed Vegas’ coaching situation during the game but avoided mentioning the candidates. His Raiders didn’t end up hiring either of Detroit’s coordinators as Johnson went to the Bears and Glenn landed with the New York Jets.

McCaskey will be happy to know that Buck, now ESPN’s lead play-by-play man, is not on the call for either the NFC or AFC Championship Games, which will be covered on Fox and CBS, respectively or Super Bowl LIX, which will air on Fox.
