As we approach Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, we have seen perhaps as many shocking trades as any previous trade deadline in years past. And that has led to some tireless work from countless media members, including SportsCenter host Gary Striewski.
The hectic NBA news cycle of course started with one of the most shocking trades in the history of the league on Sunday morning that saw the Los Angeles Lakers obtain Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks in return for Anthony Davis. Not long after we got another blockbuster, with the San Antonio Spurs acquiring De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade that saw the Kings get back Zach Lavine from the Chicago Bulls. Wednesday brought another big trade with the Miami Heat sending Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in a multi-team deal.
Seeing stars the level of Luka Dončić, Anthony Davis, De’Aaron Fox, Zach Lavine, and now Jimmy Butler all get traded in the span of under a week is certainly something that the NBA is unlikely to see happen again in quite some time. This has led to some very busy mornings for Gary Striewski, who has been the host of SportsCenter each morning following the blockbuster trades throughout the week.
Following the Butler trade, Striewski took to social media to jokingly share how tired he already is anticipating another morning of coverage around the latest blockbuster move.
“I’ve been on the SportsCenter desk the morning after every blockbuster NBA trade this week,” wrote Striewski on X. “Tomorrow will be no different. I’m tired.”

Striewski’s colleague Field Yates cleverly responded with the infamous picture of Jimmy Butler looking exhausted during the 2020 NBA Finals.
“My man had the chance to use this and dropped the ball,” replied Yates to Striewski’s post.

Unfortunately for Striewski, the actual day of the NBA trade deadline, which is Thursday, has historically been the busiest day when it comes to trades all year long. So he very well may have another huge blockbuster deal to cover on Friday’s edition of SportsCenter as well.
