Chris Canty has made quite the name for himself this football season on ESPN Radio and television appearances thanks to his bold takes. But one take about Jalen Hurts was too bold for even his co-workers to handle.
On ESPN Radio’s Unsportsmanlike that Canty hosts with Michelle Smallmon and Evan Cohen, the former New York Giants defensive end proclaimed that he had Hurts in his Top 10 quarterbacks at the beginning of the season. Why this is really all that important is anyone’s guess, but apparently it was being used to show faith in the Eagles players and proclaim that the doubts had been about head coach Nick Sirianni all along.
But in a swift turn of events, Canty was called out by one of the folks in the production room almost immediately that he actually did not have Hurts in his Top 10 and there were video clips to prove the flip flop.
Awkward!

Afterwards, Chris Canty went to social media to share that he was speaking the truth and he did have Hurts as a Top 10 QB trying to use this tweet as proof.
Checks notes from earlier this month….. Yeah, Hurts as a top 10 QB pic.twitter.com/NFRMhdnK54

Except there’s just one problem with Chris Canty’s defense. That tweet is dated January 8, 2025 at the beginning of the postseason, not before the season as he indicated. It’s a list of quarterbacks solely in the playoffs, not all teams.
So is there video evidence of Canty saying Hurts isn’t a Top 10 quarterback in the NFL? Of course there is! Check out this clip from March 2024’s First Take that shows the host getting caught in a giant flip flop.
Chris Canty Doesn’t Believe Jalen Hurts Is Top 10 QB In The League!!! Y’all Agree???

Uh oh.
If Chris Canty is going to try to make a name for himself as one of ESPN’s top hot take guys, he needs to at least check his own tape so he can keep said hot takes consistent. Because the one hot take that’s too hot to handle is the hot take against yourself.
