Prior to Monday’s National Championship game between Notre Dame and Ohio State on ESPN, popular rap artist Travis Scott took to social media to inform his fans that he would be debuting his new song “4X4” during the network’s halftime show of the game. But unfortunately, those who tuned in to see him perform were far from impressed by the production value of Scott’s performance.

When it came time to perform, ESPN moved from the studio to a shot of Scott standing on top of a very dimly lit Mercedes-Benz Stadium that made it incredibly tough to even see him.

While it wasn’t announced exactly how long Scott would be performing, most fans assumed that he may play at least a few songs on top of his new song “4X4.” This was not the case, as Scott would appear for just under two minutes to perform his new song before ESPN shifted back to coverage of the game.

The entirety of his performance was also not posted on any of ESPN’s social media accounts but could be found on several hip-hop-related accounts, including Rap Alert on X.

Naturally, many viewers took to social media with a litany of complaints about Scott’s performance from everything to him being on top of the stadium to how brief it was.

“So did the people who paid an absolute premium for tickets to the game just watch Travis Scott on the Jumbotron inside Mercedes Benz Stadium??” wrote Big Ten Network producer McKenna Keil on X.

That’s it? That’s all? Travis Scott was only on for about 60 seconds,” another fan wrote on X.

“Was Travis Scott’s song supposed to be that short or was the audio so bad ESPN cut it lol?” another viewer questioned on X.

Unfortunately for ESPN, this perhaps wasn’t even the most criticized moment of their halftime show. The network also aired a message from President Donald Trump at halftime that led to them receiving some significant negative feedback on social media.
