Few thought Bill Belichick would have any trouble recruiting stars to play for him at North Carolina.
But how many people thought the 72-year-old head coach would be wearing out Instagram to chat with and recruit players?
Less than three weeks into his new duties as head coach of the Tar Heels, Belichick’s recruiting efforts are booming, so to speak. In his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Belichick explained his Instagram has been “busy.”
“Are we still recruiting, putting together a staff, where are you at right now, down in North Carolina?” McAfee asked.
“Definitely recruiting, a lot of guys going into the portal seems like every day … a lot of people contacting us wanting to come to Carolina,” Belichick said. “My Instagram account’s been busy. Scrolling through that, I never thought I’d be saying that, but here I am, joining the 21st century. So that’s been good. We’ve got big weekends coming up, the weekend of the fourth, the weekend of the 11th, a lot of guys coming in to visit and stuff like that. It’s been fun, it’s been good, I’ve really enjoyed it. School’s been great, the chancellor and the staff, the administration have really been behind us.
“A lot of players want to come to Carolina, so that’s a good thing. You see any good ones, send them our way.”
“I cannot wait to see who ends up a North Carolina Tar Heel under your watch down there,” McAfee said. “I think that’s something that a lot of people would be excited about. I can’t believe you’re using your SnapFace and MyFace DMs now to connect with people that potentially are in the transfer portal, but I love it.”

Belichick touched on other issues during his visit with McAfee. He weighed in on the issue of clock management, after being asked about Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris’ decisions late in the Sunday Night Football game.
“It’s mystifying, and I don’t know exactly what happened,” Belichick said, playing it diplomatically.
