Adam Schefter smoothly transitions from breaking down free agency to talking on the phone and walking off the set

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is always a busy man, and especially on the first day of NFL free agency. Schefter appeared live on NFL Insiders with the latest scoops, and as he finished talking about the Brock Osweiler-to-Browns trade, smoothly took a phone call and wandered off the set.

ESPN let Schefter or do this — and probably encouraged it — to show off their hard-working, No. 1 NFL insider. Hell, they even had a SCHEFTER CAM:

A man speaking on the phone, with no audio to hear any of the conversation. Very exciting television.

Heath Evans has weird thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys

Heath Evans and Deion Sanders were getting into some debate action on NFL Network during day one of free agency, and the topic for the segment I’m about to show you was regarding Tony Romo’s potential landing spot.

Sanders brought up the idea of Romo staying in the Dallas and chasing a ring in a backup role, and Evans responded with some comments that I found pretty odd (even though I agree that Romo is better off going somewhere else and starting):

Evans: Hey, that team ain’t getting a ring anytime soon. We can talk about that another day. That ring ain’t coming to Dallas for a while, if ever. But that Denver defense, and that Texans defense, they’re close. They’re real close.

Sanders: So you mean to tell me the Houston Texans are closer to a ring than the Dallas Cowboys, with what you just saw last year?

Evans: Because of the head coach, and that defense.

Sanders: The head coach? The head coach? The head coach was Coach of the Year!

Sometimes Deion says nutty things, but I have to side with him on this one. Evans’ comments come across as biased and frankly bizarre.

Dallas just went an NFC-best 13-3 with a rookie quarterback and rookie running back, both of whom already played like stars. With how running backs age, Ezekiel Elliott may never better than that season again, but Dak Prescott figures to keep getting better at quarterback, and Dallas may still have the best offensive line in football.

Jason Garrett just won Coach of the Year as Deion said, so the “because of the head coach” argument is oddly timed. There are better coaches out there than Garrett, but you likely don’t go 13-3 with a rookie quarterback if you have a crappy head coach either. And just a few months ago, Bill O’Brien was rumored to be on the hot seat in Houston, while the Broncos just hired a guy — Vance Joseph — that has never been a head coach at any level. It’s not like we’re comparing him to Bill Belichick.

Maybe the Cowboys don’t win a Super Bowl soon, and maybe the Broncos or Texans would be better set-up to win if they added Tony Romo to go with their top-five defenses. But the Cowboys absolutely are in great shape to contend for a Super Bowl right now, and likely for the next few years.

Bill Walton and Dave Pasch were at their best for the PAC-12 Tournament

Again, I save the Bill Walton section for last because there are a lot of clips, and if you don’t like Bill (and trust me, I understand why), you can leave now. But if you do, get ready to laugh hard.

Walton and Dave Pasch did their final games of the year together in the PAC-12 Tournament, and it was incredibly entertaining television. I’m just going to start with the order I got them.

First up is Walton during the UCLA-USC quarterfinals game, talking about his dislike of statistics, Lonzo Ball, Las Vegas, Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Venice Beach, and then bringing it back to Lonzo Ball, all in 20 seconds. This clip is a classic example of a Walton broadcast:

Then after the game, Walton immediately appeared on SportsCenter and it was amazing. Neil Everett and Stan Verrett didn’t even really know what to do, and that was fine because they were only able to get like three questions in there anyway. There was plenty of Pasch mocking as usual. Bill is ruthless to this guy but Pasch takes it like a champ and goes along with the fun, which is a huge reason they’re so fantastic together:

Then Walton clowning ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi!

And after the PAC-12 title game between Arizona and Oregon, Walton immediately went back to mocking Lunardi:

During that game, Walton asked Pasch, “Have you ever spent time in the visiting room of a prison?”

And we’ll finish with what was a great moment showing their chemistry together, as Walton went off on his weird thoughts — while discussing the Allonzo Trier situation — and Pasch gave an outstanding, sarcastic response mocking Walton.

In a season where Walton mocked Pasch so much, this was perfect, and Walton’s laugh said it all:

Walton: When was the last time somebody came up to you and said, “Hey, take two of these!” And you just said, “Yeah! Let’s go!”

Pasch: Certainly not when I’m working with you.
