TCU football, we owe you an apology; we weren’t really familiar with your social media admin’s game.
Now, we at Awful Announcing, the ACC, The CW, and the rest of college football are, as whoever runs the official account for the Horned Frogs on X (formerly Twitter) woke up Friday morning and chose violence.

In recreating a ‘This is SportsCenter’ commercial, TCU’s social team poked fun at the fact that the Horned Frogs would be on The CW for their Week 4 matchup against SMU. The 28-second clip was relatively tame until about the 20-second mark. It showed an unidentified TCU player sporting a No. 1 jersey, making a cup of coffee at the community Keurig and settling into a desk chair at the team’s football offices.
You can hear an audible “All of our representatives are currently busy; please stay on the line,” as the Horned Frogs player in question pretends to make a customer service call. That’s when it gets juicy as Paula Cole’s “All I Want to Wait” plays through the speakerphone.
It was a ‘This is SportsCenter’ commercial.
Well…
“This is CW, unfortunately.
“Thanks ACC.”
Ouch.
It’s not exactly clear why TCU threw shade at The CW. While it might not be the usual go-to for college football, the network has proven to be pretty solid. Thom Brennaman will lead The CW’s coverage of the ACC and some Pac-12 games, joined by Max Browne and Treavor Scales.
Last year, Tom Werme, James Bates, and Scales handled most of the ACC games for the network. After picking up the Raycom-produced package last summer, The CW has kept things rolling with these broadcasts.
But TCU also came rolling with the punches, which drew some notable responses:
Hilarious but once again I’m an advocate for more games on more channels. So I like the CW having games and @MaxBrowne4 calling them! https://t.co/VpYdWyikOw

Yeah, okay…lets not act like this game only had 269K viewers on FS1 last yr. (the Big 12 attributed network), and lets forget that all but 3 CW games have had more viewers than that (both ACC games at 400K+ this yr)
Lol, being petty for a better network. Hilarious behavior! https://t.co/TCwbc1jMht

TCU’s social media team brought their A-game, and the internet didn’t miss it. In college football, where even TV networks aren’t safe from a little shade, this level of pettiness is pure gold.
But hopefully, a 28-second clip didn’t write a check that the football team can’t cash.
