The Oklahoma Sooners shut out the UTEP Miners 51-0 on Friday night to open their 2026 college football campaign.

UTEP was clearly overmatched, but they also had their opportunities to put points on the board.

One such opportunity was a 50-yard field goal attempt by Miners kicker Carlos Arreola in the first quarter. At that point, the game was 14-0, and while not great for UTEP, three points would have at least given them a bit of momentum to build on.

While the kick had the distance, it unfortunately sailed right. Fortunately, however, SEC Network+’s Ted Emrich was given the opportunity to break out a play on words he’s likely been sitting on ever since he was assigned to call this game.

“Arreola nips it to the right.”

“Arreola nips it to the right,” Emrich cheekily says as the ball sails past the goalposts.

We all see what you did there, Ted. Two comedy points.

The call went viral on social media, but it doesn’t appear that Emrich has acknowledged the appreciation yet. We have to imagine he checked, however. You don’t throw that line out there without wondering who caught it.
