Navy has shared a positive update regarding play-by-play man Pete Medhurst, the voice of the Midshipmen on the Navy Radio Network.

Saturday’s game against Rice will be the first time in 240 games (a streak that dates back to 1997) that Medhurst is not on the call for Navy. It was reported on Thursday that Medhurst had been diagnosed with brain cancer and would undergo surgery on Friday to remove a brain tumor.

On Saturday, the Navy athletic program shared an update on X (formerly Twitter) that things went well and that his recovery is ahead of schedule.

“Good news from the Medhurst family,” the update said. “Pete is doing well and we are getting out of the ICU a day earlier than they thought he would and moving upstairs to a regular room. Today ends Pete’s 240 game streak but we know Joe [Miller] and Keith [Mills] will crush it. Thank you everyone. Go Navy!”
