Pete Medhurst, the play-by-play voice of Navy Midshipmen Athletics, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

Bill Wagner of The Capital reported the news on Thursday, as well as the news that Medhurst will have surgery on Friday.

Pete Medhurst, the voice of @NavyAthletics, has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Medhurst, a lifelong Shady Side resident, will undergo surgery Friday morning to remove a brain tumor,” Wagner shared on X, along with an accompanying article (paywall required)

“All of us who love and respect Pete know he will beat this and cannot wait until he is back behind the microphone,” Wagner added on X, formerly Twitter.

He was not alone.

Several people in the industry reached out and offered their best wishes and support to Medhurst.
