Last month, former Florida State and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed reports that he would be joining ACC Huddle, the signature college football show on ACC Network, for the start of the 2025 season. But according to him, his upcoming media role may not last all that long should he receive the right opportunity to return to coaching.
During a recent appearance on the Trials to Triumph podcast, hosted by former NFL fullback Freddie Stevenson, who played under Fisher at Florida State from 2013 to 2016, Fisher spoke about his ambition to return to coaching, saying he believes he “still has a lot to give” as a coach.
“I’m 59, in great shape and healthy. I’ve had success everywhere we’ve ever been,” Fisher said. “The end at Texas A&M, it’s unfortunate, but we also had the highest-ranked team they ever had there in 2020. Our quarterbacks got hurt. We played with first-team, third-team. It was hard to get play calling and guys around. Didn’t pan out like we needed to, but I still love it.”
“Being able to [coach], I would. I’ve won 72% of my games, won 80% of my playoff games. I’ve been fortunate to win a national championship as a head coach and assistant. I miss the relationships with players. I would be very interested in still doing it. I still think I’ve got a lot to give. I’d like to get back out there.”
Fisher hasn’t coached college football since 2023, his final year at Texas A&M. That season was cut short after ten games when he was removed from his duties. But as he alluded to, Fisher does have quite the track record of success everywhere he has gone, famously winning a National Championship in 2013 at Florida State.
We saw how a brief tenure in the media helped boost the reputation of legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick, who parlayed his time on ESPN as a regular on the alternate Monday Night Football broadcast, the Manningcast, in 2024 into becoming the lead man for the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2025.
While Fisher doesn’t have quite as great of a coaching career as Belichick, it certainly seems like Fisher wouldn’t have too much trouble finding a high-profile job in 2026 should he still want to pursue coaching after spending the 2025 season working at the ACC Network.
