Mike Norvell is still the Florida State Seminoles head football coach, but likely not for long.

As for who could replace Norvell, the school might be looking for someone who came before him.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, Fisher “really wants the job,” and it sounds like FSU might be willing to let bygones be bygones and bring him back.

“Industry sources told The Athletic that FSU brass is looking into the possibility,” wrote Feldman. “Financially, it could make some sense.”

Fisher, 60, is currently a college football studio analyst for ACC Network, but he’s made it no secret that he wants to return to coaching at some point.

“I still think I can go win the national championship somewhere,” Fisher said in 2025. “I truly believe that.”

On paper, you can make the case that no one knows how to win in Tallahassee more than Fisher. He went 83-23 in eight seasons at the helm in Florida State, including three ACC titles and a national championship. He left in 2018 to take over Texas A&M with the expectation he’d do the same for them. A disappointing six-season stint ended there poorly, though he walked away with a substantial buyout.

For what it’s worth, Fisher received a warm welcome from the Florida State faithful when he returned last year as part of an ACC Network on-site broadcast.

“Brings tears to my eyes,” Fisher said. “Memories of your family growing up here, to hear that chant, something to it.”

Would Florida State’s best solution to its current problems be to bring back the guy who was great a decade ago? That usually doesn’t work out (Just ask Rutgers). But it’s clear Fisher wants to get back on the sidelines and maybe, in this instance, you can go home once again.
