Plans are coming together for ESPN’s coverage of Bill Belichick’s debut as a North Carolina Tar Heel.
According to a report by Bryan Fischer of Sports Illustrated, ESPN is planning a live show from Chapel Hill prior to the Tar Heels’ opening game against TCU. Host Matt Barrie will be joined by analysts Tedy Bruschi, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, and reporter Pete Thamel. ESPN’s lead college football announcing booth of play-by-play commentator Rece Davis and analyst Kirk Herbstreit will call the game, with reporter Holly Rowe working the sidelines.

UNC and TCU are slated to kickoff at 8 p.m. ET on Labor Day Monday, traditionally a strong television window given the lack of other college football competition at that time. ESPN believes Bill Belichick has the potential to attract Deion Sanders-level audiences this season. ESPN’s family of networks are scheduled to broadcast at least eight UNC games this year, though the network could air as many as 10.
Expect ESPN to lean into coverage of Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels this season.
