Florida State’s football program entered Friday’s game against Duke at 1-5. Things didn’t get any better in the first half. The struggles of quarterback Brock Glenn led to some pointed criticism from Kirk Morrison, calling the game with Mike Monaco on ESPN2.
The Seminoles kicked a field goal on their opening possession and held that 3-0 lead for much of the first quarter. Then things began to unravel. Duke took the lead late in the first quarter on a pick-six from Chandler Rivers. The first play of the ensuing Florida State possession was a quarterback run, which resulted in another turnover when Glenn fumbled the ball. The Blue Devils cashed that turnover in with another touchdown. As bad as things were for Glenn, they were only about to get worse. As Glenn dropped back to pass on the first play of the next possession, play-by-play man Mike Monaco asked, “How does Glenn respond?” We soon found out.
“Picked again,” Monaco said. “Ozzie Nicholas with the third Duke takeaway. Wow.” Then Morrison offered his thoughts.
“Mike, I don’t want to say this but I gotta say it. I think he’s seeing ghosts,” Morrison said.
“Mike, I don’t want to say this but I gotta say it. I think he’s seeing ghosts…That’s a quarterback who’s seeing something pre-snap but he has to understand that it’s going to change, post-snap.”

“There’s nothing there. Nicholas, just watch him. He’s just gonna sit in his zone. He’s not even gonna really move. Watch the linebacker, Nicholas. He just goes over. He sits in a zone. That ball hits him right in the hands. So that’s a quarterback who’s seeing something pre-snap but he has to understand that it’s going to change post-snap. That’s an easy interception for the inside linebacker. Three plays, three turnovers. The last three plays, offensively for Florida State, have been turnovers.”
It was noted later on the broadcast that Florida State became the first FBS team this season to turn the ball over three times in three plays.

This is similar to what Sam Darnold said about himself during a game in 2019. During a Monday Night Football game against the New England Patriots, Darnold, then the quarterback of the New York Jets, was mic’d up. The game was a pure disaster for the Jets, who lost 33-0. During the game, Darnold was heard saying that he was “seeing ghosts.”
Glenn was removed from the game following the second interception. And while the quarterback change didn’t produce instant results, the Seminoles going three-and-out had to feel like a win given what had just taken place.
