Animals invading a playing surface is always an interesting moment in sports, and some broadcasters rise to the occasion with their calls. The latest to do that is Bob Wischusen, who was calling Oklahoma-Ole Miss on ESPN alongside Louis Riddick Saturday. That game got interrupted by a squirrel, who wound up running into the end zone, leading to a touchdown call from Wischusen:
“And now, we get a Geneva Convention to try and figure out how to get the squirrel off the field. Squirrel might score a touchdown! Oh yeah, touchdown! …And the squirrel’s up the alley and out the door.” @espnbob on the Oklahoma-Ole Miss broadcast. pic.twitter.com/o6bqDSxtzA

The funniest part of that might be Wischusen’s commentary after the touchdown as the squirrel made its way off the field. “I love the guy who’s pointing to the squirrel, as if the squirrel then knows the direction, ‘Oh, this is where I go. The door’s over here? Thank you for showing me!'”
This is just one of many examples of animal pitch, field, and court invasions over the years. A short list there includes pigeons, geese (multiple times), giraffes, rabbits (multiple times), cats (multiple times), foxes (multiple times), dogs, turtles, bees (a whole lot of times), possums, sheep, and more. But this squirrel was particularly impressive for its touchdown run, and it was fun to hear Wischusen call that.
