What was Kenny Dillingham saying to the officials as they were reviewing Arizona State’s final offensive play in Saturday’s game against BYU. Thanks to an incredible video from a student at Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, we know.

Despite a questionable end-of-game strategy, it initially looked as though the Sun Devils won the game when the clock ran out after quarterback Sam Leavitt’s final pass sailed out of bounds. But as the Arizona State fans were storming the field, the officials reviewed the play and eventually determined that one second should be placed back on the clock, giving BYU one final Hail Mary attempt. Part of the wild scene at Sun Devil Stadium saw Dillingham, standing next to ESPN’s Taylor McGregor (for the postgame interview) and yelling at the officials reviewing the play. This all took place while fans were surrounding Dillingham, McGregor and the officials.

One of the people in the crowd was Cronkite student Gabriella Chernoff, who recorded Dillingham’s profanity-laced reaction to the play being reviewed.

“There’s no way,” Dillingham screamed, with the surrounding fans around him also yelling. “There’s no way.”

After hearing that one second would be put back on the clock, Dillingham got more frustrated.

“That’s b***s***,” he yelled. “That’s f****** b***s***.”

BYU nearly made the most of the one second put back on the clock. Quarterback Jake Retzlaff’s Hail Mary pass was complete — but short of the end zone. Receiver Chase Roberts was quickly tackled, bringing the game to an end.

Chernoff’s video perfectly captured an incredibly bizarre ending to Saturday’s football game.
