Love him or hate him, Dan Hurley isn’t just one of the most accomplished coaches in college basketball history, but arguably the face of the sport.
And as such, it was only a matter of time until the UConn men’s head coach wound up with a book deal.
It appears that time has arrived, with NJ Advance Media’s Adam Zagoria reporting that Hurley is set to release a “tell-all book” this fall. Taking to X, the 52-year-old head coach made his own announcement regarding the book, which will be titled Never Stop: Life, Leadership and What it Takes to Be Great and written in the first-person alongside author Ian O’Connor.
“I’ve confronted a lot of adversity on my life’s journey and I’m proud to share those stories–along with my leadership philosophies in building championship teams at UConn–in my book ‘Never Stop,'” Hurley wrote. “I’m writing this to help people overcome & succeed.”

While Hurley will have plenty to cover regarding his life in basketball and overcoming personal struggles to become a two-time national championship-winning head coach at UConn, one of the most intriguing aspects of the book will be his perspective on being pursued for the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching job last summer. Months after leading the Huskies to their second national title in as many years, the Jersey City, New Jersey, native welcomed the Lakers’ recruitment efforts before ultimately opting to remain in Storrs as the franchise proceeded to hire JJ Redick.
The Lakers’ pursuit of Hurley even became a sports media controversy, with some openly asking whether the interest was actually legitimate or if the two sides were using each other for leverage with Redick and UConn, respectively. It was also worth noting that the reporter who broke the story, Adrian Wojnarowski (then with ESPN), has a personal connection to the Hurley family via legendary St. Anthony High School head coach Bob Hurley, Dan’s father.
While Dan Hurley went on a press tour denying such accusations after turning down the Lakers’ job, even that raised some red flags. It will be interesting to see if he shares any new insights regarding the subject in his autobiography or if it’s the typical coach-speak we’ve become accustomed to. Maybe there will be a chapter about how to constantly berate officials and get away with it or how to become college basketball’s favorite villain.
