The country’s collective interest in women’s basketball has grown exponentially over the past few years, with both the WNBA and women’s college basketball bringing in more eyeballs than ever before.
CBS Sports is looking to capitalize on that interest, launching a new social media brand entitled “hoopHer” to cover all things women’s basketball. The brand is set to exist across social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and Threads.
hoopHer released a trailer of sorts on social media, advertising what the brand was setting out to do, and headlined by Lisa Leslie and Jenny Dell.
“What is hoopHer?” Dell asks in the teaser. “The biggest stars in our game,” replies Leslie. “That’s hoopHer,” Dell concludes.
The back-and-forth continues with Leslie offering other examples. “The most electrifying moments in our game. The legends, the icons, the GOATs in our game. The next generation in our game. That feeling you get when you’ve seen something perfect.”
Welcome to hoopHer.

Judging by the first few posts the brand has put out, you can expect to see big-game highlights and mini-interviews across the channels.

The timing of the announcement works out well, as hoopHer will be able to cover the WNBA playoffs, which start this weekend, and have that run carry them right into the opening weeks of college basketball season.
Even better, the channel got to launch outside of the peak of the heated conversation surrounding Sophie Cunningham and the debate around trans athletes that drove so much of the wrong kind of attention to the sport over the summer.
