Say what you will about Elon Musk’s ownership of X — and there’s certainly been plenty to say! — but the social media platform’s crowd-sourcing approach to its Community Notes feature has resulted in no shortage of comedy.
But while previous sports-related victims of the feature include Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and the Baltimore Ravens, it was a sideswipe at TNT Sports and Barstool Sports figure Paul Bissonnette that might have been its funniest act yet.
Just after 3:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, Fox News’ official X account posted a story about Bissonnette’s recent comments that Canada should prepare for a “national emergency” if it loses to the United States in the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off final. And while the Spittin’ Chiclets co-host’s comments are certainly notable, it was the story’s headline that at least some took issue with.
“Ex-Team Canada star says country will have ‘national emergency’ if team loses to US in 4 Nations final,” the original headline on the story read.
Bissonnette might have been a lot of things throughout his lengthy professional hockey career, but “star” might be a stretch. And on the international level, he only represented Team Canada in the 2002 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and 2003 IIHF World U18 Championship — years before he made his NHL debut.
While such misinformation might have flown freely previously, Community Notes provides an opportunity for users to issue corrections. And that they did for Fox News’ story, with a scathing takedown of Bissonnette’s bonafides.
“Bissonnette may have played for team Canada as a teenager in the Under 18 World Championships, he was far from a star then and could be considered the pinnacle of his career,” the note reads. “Paul ‘Biz Nasty’ never played for Canada again. His fame has come post-career as a media personality.”
Meanwhile, the headline of the story has since been changed to “Ex-Canadian hockey player says country will have ‘national emergency’ if team loses to US in 4 Nations final.”
Sheesh.

Bissoneette’s Barstool Sports colleague, Dan “Big Cat” Katz took to X to amplify the note, writing, “BRUTAL community note for our guy Biz.” The former Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes left winger, meanwhile, replied to Katz, writing, “I just took down your biggest [American] news outlet. Now your hockey team is next. LETS GO CANADA.”

Perhaps ESPN’s P.K. Subban was onto something when he suggested the 4 Nations Face-Off could ultimately be bigger than the Stanley Cup.
