If you have ever wondered what a Mike Breen “bang” would sound like after Pete Alonso hits a towering home run, don’t worry; he’s also wondered.
Breen recently appeared on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take, revealing a surprising dream gig beyond his longtime role as the voice of the NBA on ESPN and the Knicks on MSG. While Breen has dabbled in the Olympics and even called Ski Jump, one specific team and sport truly tempts Breen, who jokingly called himself a “bit of a one-trick pony.”
He’d love to call a New York Mets game.
“Because I’m a huge Mets fan, I’d love to do a Met game someday,” Breen said.
Mets fans can breathe easy — Breen isn’t gunning for Gary Cohen’s throne.
The two legendary announcers even texted during a Mets game this season, showcasing Breen’s continued dedication to his beloved team. You’ll often find him cheering them on from the Citi Field stands.
This mutual respect opens interesting possibilities. Perhaps Breen could step in for Cohen on road trips that the latter has off. Even wilder, imagine a dream booth with Breen and Cohen trading off play-by-play duties if both Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling are unavailable. This wouldn’t be unprecedented, with announcers often sharing the microphone in such situations.
While Breen floated the play-by-play dream, Dan Katz (Barstool Big Cat) and Eric Sollenberger (PFT Commenter) offered a much more unique color commentator suggestion in the form of Barstool Sports personality Frank “The Tank” Fleming being his color analyst. And yes, Breen is quite aware of who “Frank the Tank” is. It’s hard not to know who he is as devoted a Mets fan, given that his colorful, pessimistic screaming tangents often go viral.
In trying to change the subject, Breen said he loves golf and would love to do a golf broadcast someday.
Either way, you can’t rule out Breen being on the mic for a Mets game or a golf event just yet.
