‘Barstool Van Talk’ wanted to light Dan Patrick on fire

Had ESPN not canceled it after one episode, Barstool Van Talk’s plan was to light Dan Patrick on fire.

Dan “Big Cat” Katz was a guest on the second episode of Not So Fast with Paul Pabst and Andrew Perloff to promote Pardon My Book, and was asked about the initial plan for the second episode of the ill-fated Barstool-ESPN collaboration.

“Dan [Patrick], people might not know, was your [second and last] interview on Barstool Van Talk,” started Perloff, himself a former member of The Dan Patrick Show. “And I read you were going to light him on fire for the interview?”

“We had an actual conversation with our showrunner, this guy named Ziggs, who was a great guy, and he tried his absolute best. But we’re like, ‘hey, you know, we’re going to do a play off of ‘en fuego‘ from Dan Patrick’s SportsCenter days. Let’s just light him on fire. We’ll have a fire department there. It will just be a small fire and we’ll just do it really quickly and like no one will get hurt.

“And I remember he actually, like, you know, took the idea and brought it to everyone, and he came back to us, and he, so earnestly and disappointed in himself, was like, ‘ Hey, fellas, listen, I talked to everyone. We’re not going to be able to light Dan Patrick on fire.’ And we’re just like, ‘What? Come on. What do you mean?'”

Perloff and Katz then noted that the amount of hairspray in Patrick’s hair might have led to a disaster despite any safety efforts.

The whole idea was moot because Barstool Van Talk was canceled after one episode, a fact recounted in great detail in Pardon My Book and litigated by the Barstool folks many times in the years since. But had it kept going, who knows what antics they might have talked ESPN talent into?
