On Monday, Apple TV+ announced that production on the fourth season of Ted Lasso was underway, with some very familiar faces on hand.
The critically and commercially beloved series about an American football coach who takes over AFC Richmond soccer club in the UK initially ended after the third season, but show co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis decided earlier this year to return for at least one more year.
Filming has begun in Kansas City (where Lasso returned to at the end of Season Three), and additional filming is expected to take place in London. While many of the show’s original cast members had expressed interest in returning to the show, it wasn’t confirmed until now that Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) will all officially be back as well.
They’ll be joined by several new faces, including Tanya Reynolds (Sex Education), Jude Mack (Netflix’s Back in Action), Faye Marsay (Andor), Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern (My Lady Jane, Enola Holmes 2), and Grant Feely. Feely will be taking over the role of Henry Lasso, Ted’s son.
“Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team,” reads the show’s official tagline. “Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
Initially based on a character from NBC Sports’s commercials promoting their Premier League coverage, Ted Lasso debuted in 2020 and soon became widely popular with audiences and award shows. It was nominated for 61 Emmy Awards and won 13, including two for Best Comedy Series, as well as consecutive wins for Sudeikis and Goldstein.
It also won Best Scripted Show at The Awfulies, FWIW.
