In the top of the eighth inning of Friday night’s game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets at Citi Field, Apple TV play-by-play announcer Wayne Randazzo went to studio host Lauren Gardner for an update, but she was in the middle of a phone call that viewers heard on the broadcast.
“Let’s go to our studio and Lauren Gardner,” Randazzo said as the Apple TV broadcast went to a split-screen that added the Friday Night Baseball logo and a graphic about the Chicago White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters hitting for the cycle vs. the Athletics.
Rather than getting highlights and a verbal explanation about Peters’ night, Apple TV viewers were treated to audio of a phone call between Gardner and someone.

The person on the other end of the conversation mentioned something about a “sleeping bag.”
“Dude, what?” Gardner, who also works as a host and a reporter for MLB Network and NHL Network, replied.
“Oh, I have to do an update,” Gardner realized before putting an end to the phone call.
But Apple TV gave up on that attempt and went back to the Red Sox-Mets game on the broadcast’s full screen, with Randazzo and color commentator Dontrelle Willis laughing about the live-television blooper.
Several seconds later, Randazzo said, “Friday night lights!” And Willis kept laughing.
The Red Sox-Mets game was an Apple TV exclusive broadcast for the weekly Friday Night Baseball doubleheader.
