Apple TV’s Ted Lasso was the right show at the right time for many viewers, offering laughs, heart, and incredibly winning performances.

(The actors, that is, not fictional AFC Richmond.)

It was one of the best comedies in recent memory, a huge surprise given it was based off of an old (though very funny) ad campaign for NBC’s Premier League coverage. Now, with series lead Jason Sudeikis picking up a Golden Globe (and possibly an Emmy later this year), we have a trailer for season 2, which arrives in late July.

That this trailer drops amidst one of the most turbulent times for European and English soccer in decades seems also fitting. Ted Lasso obviously takes place in a fictionalized version of the Premier League (and, spoilers for season 1: the Championship) but it’s possible that it might end up feeling more like a fantasy, should the Super League come into existence.

Season 2 might also be the penultimate season, as the showrunners have mapped out a three-year arc for the story and are expecting it to end after that. Still, having racked up plenty of awards and provided Apple TV+ the sort of show that people subscribe solely to see, anything is possible. At this point, even, just getting three seasons of a show like this would feel like a gift.
