NBA broadcaster silly season is upon us. With the league beginning its new media rights deals with Amazon and NBC next season, entire talent rosters have to be filled out in the next twelve months.
One of the hot free agents in NBA broadcasting is the recently retired Blake Griffin. According to a recent report by Front Office Sports, the former NBA big man is being courted by Amazon to fill a studio role.
The six-time NBA All-Star is seen as a media prospect beaming with potential. Per the FOS report, Griffin could become “the face” of Amazon Prime’s NBA coverage in a role similar to that of Charles Barkley on TNT Sports’ Inside The NBA.
But Amazon isn’t the only potential destination for Griffin. Griffin is “making the rounds,” which could suggest he is also in talks with NBC or ESPN.
Griffin is no stranger to the limelight. The former Slam Dunk Contest champion has made his comedy side hustle well-known over the years. In 2011, he appeared on the late comedian Norm Macdonald’s sketch show. He made his acting debut in 2016 on Comedy Central’s Broad City, then a year later appeared in Whitney Cummings’ movie The Female Brain. Later, Griffin even hosted his own hidden camera show on truTV and performed his standup comedy routine.
With all of his experience in front of the camera, it will be interesting to see if Griffin can translate his charisma to a traditional sports studio show. It seems talent executives think he’s a good bet. It’ll be interesting to see where Griffin ultimately lands when the music stops in this round of NBA broadcasting musical chairs.
