AEW Dynamite Tony Khan NFL Draft Screen grab: AEW Dynamite

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite ended with an angle that saw The Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada and Jack Perry) lay out the company’s owner and president, Tony Khan.

But while the angle was polarizing for many fans due to Khan’s rare on-screen involvement, as is the case with all things in professional wrestling, the key to it will be the follow up.

And surprisingly, that includes this weekend’s NFL Draft.

The son of Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan — who made a rare on-screen cameo during Dynamite on Wednesday — Tony Khan is a member of the team’s front office, serving as its chief football strategy officer. As such, the younger Khan will be heavily involved in the Jaguars’ draft room this weekend, particularly when it comes to the team’s efforts of signing undrafted free agents following the event.

While there is plenty of speculation about Jacksonville’s approach to the draft, the biggest question for pro wrestling fans is how far will Khan go to sell his kayfabe (fake) neck injury? Will Khan be wearing a neck brace in the Jaguars’ war room? Or will he forego the storyline altogether with his focus on his responsibilities for the Jaguars?

Apparently, we’ll have our answer soon enough.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, an NFL Films crew has been following Khan since Wednesday and will continue to do so throughout the weekend for a story about his dual roles in AEW. In particular, NFL Films is expected to focus on Saturday, when Khan will be performing his duties attempting to sign undrafted free agents while also booking an episode of AEW Collision that will air later that night.

“It’s unknown when the planned footage would air,” Meltzer wrote.

It already would have been plenty interesting to see how Khan handles his dual roles with both the Jaguars and AEW on a daily basis. Seeing the lengths he will go to sell his on-screen wrestling product behind the scenes during his NFL job, however, might make this a must-see for football and wrestling fans alike.
