    The evening YES Network encore of the afternoon New York Yankees-Detroit Tigers game on Thursday, Aug. 24, which featured the infamous bench-clearing brawls that got Miguel Cabrera, Austin Romine, and opposing managers Joe Girardi and Brad Ausmus tossed out, drew a 1.43 local household rating in the Mew York market.   • The aftermath of WWE SummerSlam from Aug. 20 benefitted USA Network’s WWE RAW (3.399 million viewers) on Aug. 21 and WWE SmackDown (2.689 million) on Aug. 22, each of which had their best respective viewership since the week of Apr. 10-11 (3.425 million for RAW, 3.108 million for SmackDown).

  • MLB Network’s live baseball game action (not counting look-in coverage during “MLB Tonight”) for Aug. 21-26 averaged 235,000 viewers and 63,000 adults 18-49 from the ten game showcase telecasts, up 1 percent (in viewers) and down 2 percent (in adults 18-49) from the year-ago week (Aug. 22-23 & 25-27, 2016: average of 233,000 viewers/64,000 adults 18-49 from nine telecasts); also, down 12 percent (in viewers) from two years ago (Aug. 24-29, 2015: average of 267,000 viewers from eleven telecasts).

  • Golf Channel’s tournaments coverage from Aug. 24-26:

    • PGA Tour: Northern Trust Open (Aug. 24-27; Golf Channel only): 562,000 viewers (+6 percent from Aug. 25-28, 2016: 528,000 viewers)
    • LPGA Tour: Canadian Women’s Open (Aug. 24-27): 171,000 viewers (+3 percent from Aug. 25-28, 2016: 167,000 viewers)
    • Champions Tour: Boeing Classic (Aug. 25-27): 159,000 viewers (+14 percent from Aug. 26-28, 2016: 139,000 viewers)
    • European Tour: Made in Denmark (Aug. 24-27): 50,000 viewers (-31 percent from Aug. 25-28, 2016: 73,000 viewers)
    • Web.com Tour: Portland Open (Aug. 24-27): 91,000 viewers (-26 percent from Aug. 25-28, 2016: 95,000 viewers)
  • The U.S. Open Cup semifinal soccer match between United Soccer League’s FC Cincinnati and Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls (which the Red Bulls had won in overtime 3-2) posted strong ratings in the Cincinnati TV market. There, the Channel 64 (CW) telecast drew a 6.0 local rating, peaking at a 7.4 rating and 64,100 local households at 9:45 p.m., as the regulation time was nearing its end with a 2-2 score. FC Cincinnati’s appearance in the semifinals marked the deepest advancement in the U.S. Open Cup for a non-MLS squad (FC Cincinnati competes in the second-tier United Soccer League) since 2011.
