Ratings News and Notes

  • It was a mixed bag of ratings for NBCSN’s NASCAR races from New Hampshire on July 15-16. The Xfinity race Overton’s 200 on July 15 drew 1.165 million viewers, matching last year’s figure (July 15, 2016: 1.165 million viewers) when the race was known as the Auto Lotto 200. The Monster Cup Series race Overton’s 301 on July 16 (3.21 million viewers) waa down just 3 percent from last year when it was known as the New Hampshire 301 (July 17, 2016: 3.3 million viewers).

  • CNBC aired F1 racing’s British Grand Prix on July 16 (452,000 viewers) and jumped up 40 percent from the same race last year that also had aired on the business channel (July 10, 2016: 322,000 viewers).

    Later that same day on CNBC, IndyCar Seriea: Honda Indy Toronto (187,000 viewers) rose 9 percent from last year (July 17, 2016: 171,000 viewers).

  • NBCSN’s live coverage of the first fifteen stages of cycling’s Tour de France in mornings on July 1-7, 9 and 11-16 averaged 298,000 viewers and 91,000 adults 18-49, up 4 percent (in viewers) and up 17 percent (in adults 18-49) from the year-ago coverage (July 2-8, 10 & 12-17, 2016: 286,000 viewers/78,000 adults 18-49).

  • Following the lengthy 5-hour extra-inning Boston-N.Y. Yankees affair (635,000 viewers), FS1’s Premier Boxing Champions on July 15, featuring Jamal James versus Jo Jo Dan, drew 277,000 viewers. This was 33 percent higher than the year-ago PBC card that had also showcased James (vs. Wale Omotoso on July 16, 2016: 209,000 viewers).

  • UFC Fight Night 113 on FS1 July 16 from Glasgow, Scotland averaged 402,000 viewers. The event featured Gunnar Nelson vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio, peaking at 496,000 viewers when Ponzinibbio defeated Nelson in just 82 seconds (Source: MMA Fighting). The UFC Fight Night 113 telecast was down 19 percent from the most recent Sunday afternoon UFC Fight Night — 109 with Alexander Gustafsson vs. Glover Teixeira (May 28, 2017: 496,000 viewers).

    113 prelims posted 284,000 viewers, down 20 percent from 109 prelims (May 28, 2017: 353,000 viewers).

  • Fox Sports’ live coverage of soccer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament on FS1 and FS2 on July 7-9 and 11-16 averaged 225,000 viewers from 16 match telecasts, down 34 percent from the 2015 Gold Cup coverage over the similar period (July 7-15 & 18-19, 2016: aversge of 338,000 viewers from 22 telecasts).

  • The first two rounds of the U.S. Women’s Open golf tournament on FS1 in the afternoons of July 13-14 averaged 179,000 viewers, down 8 percent from last year’s two-round coverage (July 7-8, 2016: aversge of 196,000 viewers).
