  • ESPN’s live coverage of the first two rounds of The Masters golf tournament in the afternoons of Apr. 6-7 averaged 2.37 million viewers and 596,000 adults 18-49 — down 13 percent and down 16 percent, respectively, from the first two Masters rounds on ESPN from Apr. 7, 2016 (2,73 million/707,000 adults 18-49). Prime time reruns of Rounds 1-2 on the same dates fell year-to-year by 22 percent in total viewers (754,000 vs. 966,000) and 28 percent among adults 18-49 (277,000 vs. 385,000).
  • Overall, the 2017 NCAA Div. I Men’s Hockey Frozen Four on ESPN2 Apr. 6 and on ESPN Apr. 8 was down from 2016:
    • The early Frozen Four tilt on Apr. 6, “Harvard vs. Minnesota Duluth” was the lone college hockey game to see a viewer increase from 2016: up 28 percent in total viewers (178,000 vs. 138,000 of Boston College-Quinnipiac on Apr. 7, 2016). However, there was a decline among adults 18-49 (-11 percent: 59,000 vs. 66,000).
    • The nightcap of the Frozen Four on Apr. 6, “Notre Dame vs. Denver” was down a hefty 57 percent in viewers (155,000 vs. 361,000) and down 49 percent among adults 18-49 (75,000 vs. 149,000), compared to Denver-North Dakota on Apr. 7, 2016.
    • The Championship on ESPN on Apr. 8, “Minnesota Duluth vs. Denver” drew 467,000 viewers and 198,000 adults 18-49, down 14 percent and up 5 percent, respectively from Quinnipiac-North Dakota which aired on ESPN2 on Apr. 9, 2016. Minnesota Duluth-Denver marked a six-year low in total viewers for a Frozen Four championship game.
  • Ups and dows for coverage of MLB Opening Day on ESPN Apr. 3:
    • San Diego at L.A. Dodgers” in the late afternoon was down 25 percent in total viewers (679,000 vs. 903,000) and down 21 percent among adults 18-49 (315,000 vs. 401,000) from last year (Seattle-Texas, 4/4/16).
    • The prime time game of “Cleveland at Texas” showed significant gains from the year-ago’s L.A. Dodgers-San Diego; up 26 percent in viewers (1.14 million vs. 899,000) and up 14 percent among adults 18-49 (514,000 vs. 452,000).
    • There were no games in comparable time slots from 2016 for each New York Mets game on Apr. 3 (vs. Atlanta; 626,000 viewers/269,000 adults 18-49) and on Apr. 9 (vs. Miami; 1.74 million viewers/757,000 adults 18-49).
  • With just four additional Sunday editions remaining, The Sports Reporters from Apr. 9 drew 478,000 viewers and 259,000 adults 18-49 on ESPN; -24 percent from the year-ago ESPN telecast (628,000 viewers/339,000 adults 18-49 from Apr. 10, 2016)
