Joe Buck

The New York Giants-Washington Redskins game was a play-in game for Washington. If the Redskins had won, it would have earned the 6 seed in the NFC side of the NFL playoffs. The game was tied at 10 late, but after the Giants kicked a field goal and Kirk Cousins threw a pick, the Redskins’ fate was sealed. In the final play of the game, Washington tried a Hail Mary lateral play, but the ball was picked up by the Giants for a touchdown with no time left to officially eliminate the Redskins from the playoffs.

That’s where things became a little messy. As both teams were on the field for postgame handshakes, they were informed the Giants still had to kick the extra point even though the game wasn’t in doubt. It’s where Troy Aikman got a little incredulous wanting to know why the conversion had to be made and Joe Buck had a little fun by making an veiled Al Michaels gambling reference causing an extended pause in the booth.

“I wonder what Al Michaels would say in a spot like this.” Nicely done, Joe. Nicely done. Eventually, the game ended with the Giants taking a knee on a two-point conversion winning 19-10. Some common sense prevailed.
