In his appearance Monday night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote Turner’s upcoming March Madness coverage, Charles Barkley and Colbert discussed his terrible golf swing, along with the Golden State Warriors.
Colbert, like many of us, found it hard to believe that Barkley’s swing was so terrible considering he’s one of the best power forwards to ever play the game of basketball. But Barkley explained it being more of a mental block than anything, and that crowds make him nervous when he’s playing golf.
Barkley admitted he was wrong about the Golden State Warriors last season, saying, “I was very wrong.” But, despite admitting his fault in judging last season’s team, similarly contrarian opinions about Steph Curry, and asserting that the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls would crush the current Warriors squad, Barkley bet Colbert that Golden State wouldn’t win another NBA title this season.
“They have a terrific team and they’ve been great for the NBA,” he said. “I’m telling you right now they’re not going to win the NBA Championship this year.” The two bet a round of golf on whether or not the Warriors would indeed win a repeat championship.
Unfortunately, the entire interview isn’t available in a video clip, but the full Monday night show can be viewed at the CBS website. The Barkley interview begins at the 25:45 mark.
