south park

The 20th season of South Park begins Wednesday, and it appears the Comedy Central show will look to the sports world for inspiration.

Following the Monday Night Football game between the 49ers and Rams, in which Colin Kaepernick continued to kneel in protest during the national anthem, South Park posted a teaser featuring a crowd singing a Star-Spangled Banner-tuned song about Kaepernick and the police.

Take a look:

Here are those brilliant lyrics:

Colin Kaepernick is great, cops are pigs, cops are pigs,
Wait, somebody just took my stuff! I need to call the cops.
Oh no I just said cops are pigs! Who’s going to help me get my stuff?
Why did I listen to Colin Kaepernick? He’s not even any good.
Oh I just got my stuff back, cops are pigs again, cops are pigs,
Colin Kaepernick is a good backup…

Though it’s tough to tell from a 30-second clip, it seems like South Park is taking somewhat of an anti-Kaep stance, mocking people who say things like “cops are pigs.” Them again, the show’s writers are probably sharp enough to appreciate that someone can criticize the police and still believe in their usefulness in situations like getting your stolen stuff back.

Two seasons ago, South Park premiered with a memorable episode spoofing the Washington Redskins naming controversy. We’ll see how this foray into the intersection of sports and social issues compares.
