Jerry Remy

NESN viewers who were watching Saturday’s Minnesota Twins-Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park got a little shock when they heard Jerry Remy on the broadcast for the first inning, only to be suddenly replaced by Steve Lyons in the second. For a while there was no explanation until the Red Sox and NESN came out with one later in the evening.

It was because a sudden gust of wind knocked a television monitor down from the broadcast booth and onto Remy’s head. He was checked and found not to have a concussion, but was sent home for the rest of the night and Lyons commentated with play-by-play man Dave O’Brien through the game’s conclusion.

But Remy reached out to his fans on Twitter to let them know he was o.k.:

Swirling winds at Fenway wreaked havoc on the game as fly balls were blown into triples and dirt was blown all over the park.

And maybe it was a good thing that Remy missed the rest of the game as the Twins and Red Sox played over four hours with Minnesota eventually winning 11-9.

He will be back in the booth later today on NESN.
