Paul Finebaum

SEC Network personality Paul Finebaum is often mocked for his pro-SEC takes, but those don’t usually extend to the level of rewriting history. That’s what happened on his Paul Finebaum Show Monday, though, when a caller asked why the Cleveland Browns haven’t done better with all the SEC players they’ve drafted, and Finebaum confidently asserted “The Browns did not draft Trent Richardson.”

Can we get a fact-check on that one?

The best part is the utter confidence, not only in his initial answer but then again after the caller questions him. Finebaum then tried to backtrack and correct himself but still got it wrong, saying “They drafted him, but they immediately traded him, he did not start in Cleveland.”

Uh, Paul?

As the above ProFootballReference stats show, Richardson wasn’t traded until over a year after the draft and started 17 games in Cleveland. This historical revisionism shall not stand, and we have not always been at war with Eastasia. Perhaps after the election, we can get one of the Trump fact-checkers to watch Finebaum daily and see if other things along these lines pop up? Nah…that’s probably cruel and unusual punishment.
