Los Angeles City Councilman wants to rename street for Vin Scully

As we all know, outgoing Los Angeles Dodgers voice Vin Scully is an American treasure. With 2016 being his final and 67th year in the broadcast booth, there’s a proposal to rename a stretch of Elysian Park Avenue as Vin Scully Avenue.

This isn’t the first time there’s been a proposal to rename a street in Scully’s honor. In 2013, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti wanted to rename a street near Dodger Stadium for Scully, but the broadcaster turned it down.

This week, Los Angeles City Councilman Gil Cedillo introduced a motion to rename a two-block stretch from Sunset Boulevard to Sunset Way leading into Dodger Stadium:

Scully currently calls most Dodger home games (and selected road games). He is known for his dulcet voice, lyrically descriptive style, and signature introduction to Dodger games: “It’s time for Dodger baseball! Hi, everybody, and a very pleasant good (day/evening) to you, wherever you may be.

If the motion is passed by the Council, Los Angeles’ city engineer will begin the process of changing the street’s name. Hopefully the motion will be successful and we’ll have that portion of Elysian Park Avenue named as Vin Scully Avenue in the near future. And we hope Vin will accept the honor this time as opposed to 2013.
