Kate Scott is one of the popular and hardest working sports personalities in the Bay Area. She’s a sports anchor on KNBR radio,  a play-by-play announcer for women’s basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball on Pac-12 Networks and she’s been seen on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area/California. Scott is about to get her highest profile assignment yet as it’s been announced that she’ll call two San Francisco 49ers preseason games on radio.

With normal 49ers voice Ted Robinson in Rio to call diving for NBC, it makes for some musical chairs in both the TV and radio booths. Robinson who calls Niners games on radio during the regular season usually calls their preseason games on television. Golden State Warriors TV announcer Bob Fitzgerald does the games on radio while Robinson is on TV. For the team’s games against Houston and Denver on August 14 and 20, respectively, Fitzgerald will call the games on TV while Scott will do the games on radio.

Scott will be working with Keena Turner and Dennis Brown on the broadcasts.

Scott becomes the second woman in the Bay Area to call NFL preseason games. Beth Mowins is in her second season of calling Oakland Raiders games on TV. And this will make Scott the third woman to call an NFL game. Gayle Sierens called a game for NBC in 1987.

It’s a move showing that KNBR has the confidence in Scott to call the Niners and perhaps down the road, they’ll have her do more games down the road.
