Governor of Ohio and Presidential hopeful John Kasich made what might be deemed an unusual stop on the campaign trail Friday when he sat down with Dan Patrick to discuss the cross-section of politics and sports.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the interview is when Kasich touched on ESPN regarding the way the Worldwide Leader seems to have a reputatuon for running off good talent.

“It seems as though they have a pretty heavy hand. That’s what it seemed to me. We’re all fans of ESPN because it’s 24-hours, it’s cool, it’s fun. We all love the commercials…they’re clever. I just didn’t know what to make of the whole [Bill] Simmons thing. It’s like there’s a war there and I didn’t understand what it was and you’re not there anymore and I just can’t figure it out, like if you cross them, they like pound you. I don’t know. I don’t know what to think about it.”

After hesitating to get into it, Patrick responded with his thoughts.

“I think it’s like most companies, they want total control. But Bill Simmons wanted total control. It’s a tug of war.”

“I think it had gotten to the point where they’d outgrown me or I’d outgrown them. I think the same with Bill Simmons.”

Later on in the interview, Patrick asked Kasich the extremely-important question of whether or not the Monday following the Super Bowl should be a national holiday.

“It should be. There’s no productivity whatsoever…I’m gonna take that under consideration. Maybe we can get that done in the first 100 days.”

Kasich then lamented the lack of ability to watch The Masters before sharing a story about playing at Augusta.

They also talked about politics but, you know, that’s not as important.
