Indianapolis doctor in Al Jazeera HGH report now linked to Ponzi scheme

It’s been a week since the Al Jazeera report surfaced which said the wife of Denver Broncos quarterback Payton Manning had HGH sent to their house from an Indianapolis doctor when Manning was recovering from a neck injury while with the Colts. A lot of things have happened since that report aired during the Christmas holiday weekend. First, Manning denied that he took HGH. Then a pharmacist who worked for Dale Guyer, the owner of an anti-aging clinic, retracted what he said in the report. And then the reporter who fronted the piece, Deborah Davies stood by her report.

So there couldn’t be anything else after an action-packed week, right? Wrong. Now we learn that Guyer was a defendant in a lawsuit against a Indianapolis businessman jailed for running a Ponzi scheme. The Denver Post reports that court records show that Guyer was friends with Timothy Durham who is serving a 50-year sentence for bilking some 5,000 investors of $2 million.

Apparently Durham lent Guyer’s business money in the hundreds of thousands of dollars between 2003 and 2008. That money was used to purchase medical equipment, pay off any debts and fill a line of credit. Guyer said Durham would review his company’s books to determine if any cash was needed adding that he could pay back the loan at a later date and the money would then appear in his accounts.

Guyer only paid back a small portion of the loans and now he and the co-defendants in the lawsuit have agreed to pay back $35,000 over a year and a half.

And to add even more to this story, WTHR columnist Bob Kravitz has admitted that he took HGH after it was prescribed to him by Guyer. Kravitz said he went to see Guyer for fatigue and was given HGH for a couple of months. As Kravitz wrote, it had no effect “except on my bank account.”

So this story gets weirder with each passing day and we’re probably going to hear more developments soon.
