FS1’s new afternoon TV lineup, still in its preliminary stages but expected to be heavy on “strong personalities“, has added one more personality from outside of the network. Houston area radio host Nick Wright, perhaps best known around these parts for squaring off with Houston Cougars head coach Tom Herman, will be joining Fox Sports as part of that afternoon lineup according to the Houston Chronicle.

While there’s no immediate word on who he’ll be working with, in which timeslot, or on which show, one can connect the dots when reading Wright’s comments about his impending departure.

Wright, who has hosted KILT’s morning show with John Lopez since 2012, said he will have a regular role on a Fox Sports 1 weekday show, the details of which have yet to be announced by the network, to be hosted by “one of the network’s most recognizable personalities.”

So, either the still-to-be announced second Colin Cowherd show, or the still-to-be announced Jason Whitlock show. I think either of those would be a safe assumption, especially given that Fox target Skip Bayless wouldn’t fall under the umbrella of “one of the network’s most recognizable personalities”…yet, at least.

The safe money is on him being featured with Whitlock, especially considering this blurb from the Chronicle article about Wright’s personality.

Particularly in comparison to his predecessor, Wright drew attention for his willingness to discuss social issues, including matters of race, both within and outside the context of sports.

His Twitter bio, as an example, reads, “no justice, no peace is more than just a catchy slogan on a t shirt.”

I will say this about Wright’s hire – at least he isn’t an ESPN retread and will be a new face for FS1’s viewers. He’ll finish up with KILT 610 AM in Houston on April 8th, and by then, we’ll probably start learning more details about his role on whichever show with whichever recognizable FS1 personality.
