Reality TV fans may know former outfielder Jim Edmonds as one of the husbands on the Real Housewives of Orange County, but baseball fans remember him as a member of the Angels, Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Padres and Reds. Edmonds retired in 2011.
Since 2013, Edmonds has been part of Fox Sports Midwest’s studio show on pregame and postgame, but for the 2016 season, he’ll join the network’s broadcast booth for 30 games. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Edmonds will join a rotation of analysts that includes Al Hrabosky, Ricky Horton and Tim McCarver. They’ll join play-by-play man Dan McLaughlin,
Edmonds will take the portion of games from Horton will who will go to the radio booth when voice Mike Shannon takes time off. The 76 year old Shannon will be only calling the Redbirds’ home games on KMOX and the vast 111 station Cardinals radio network. So Horton will join John Rooney on the road on radio.
Edmonds will continue to be on the pre and postgame show for about 20 telecasts. It means that Edmonds will have an increased role on the Cardinals telecasts and perhaps he’s being groomed for more games down the road. Currently Hrabosky and McCarver work 55 and 35 games, respectively and Horton will work 30 games on Fox Sports Midwest and 81 games on KMOX.
Edmonds worked one game last year so he’s going to be seen a lot more by Cardinals fans this season. His first game in the booth will be during Spring Training when the Cards take on the Marlins.
