If you’re a regular listener of the Paul Finebaum Show, then you’ve heard the calls from Phyllis Perkins from Mulga. And while she’s known for her caustic tone as a hardcore Alabama fan, there’s more to Phyllis than meets the eye.

From Al.com, we have learned that Phyllis has overcome plenty of hardships including losing her father when she was a teenager, beating lung cancer, and losing a daughter to breast cancer five years ago, being diagnosed with breast cancer herself and less than two years ago, her husband, Dan was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to several places in his body.

Recently, a group of Finebaum fans started a GoFundMe page to help offset the costs of Dan’s medical costs and it has raised over $62,000 of its $65,000 goal. Phyllis was grateful for the help and she called into the show thanking the fans for the support.

On Sunday, ESPN/SEC Network aired a profile of Phyllis and it shows her in a much different light than the tough caller you see on the Finebaum show. The room where you see this video may get a little dusty:

Phyllis has certainly been dealt some tough cards in life, but it hasn’t stopped her from being the biggest Alabama defender this side of the Mississippi. If you would like to donate, the GoFundMe page is still up and remains open.
