ESPN will honor the legendary Los Angeles Dodgers baseball announcer Vin Scully throughout the Sept. 21 edition of Wednesday Night Baseball presented by Hankook Tire when the Dodgers host their long-time rivals, the second-place San Francisco Giants, at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN. Jon Sciambi will provide play-by-play with analysts Rick Sutcliffe and Doug Glanville for the full national telecast.
Scully’s call on SportsNet LA of the entire fourth inning will be played live on ESPN. In addition, vignettes showcasing some of Scully’s most memorable calls will be featured throughout. The Spanish-language voice of the Dodgers, Jamie Jarrín, will join Sciambi and Sutcliffe in the booth during the game.
This is similar to how CSN Chicago picked up one inning of Scully’s final Cubs-Dodgers broadcast in August, and it’s both a nice tribute to Scully and a way to let the many who still can’t watch Sportsnet LA check out part of one of Scully’s final broadcasts. It’s a move that’s not limited to ESPN, too, as the KNBR/CSN Bay Area news shows. We’ll see if there are further announcements of other broadcasters featuring Scully’s final calls in the days to come.
