Last year, DirecTV expanded the availability of its out-of-market NFL Sunday Ticket package to college students by allowing them to subscribe without a satellite dish. The service was offered online to most four-year colleges.

This year in addition to the four-year institutions, DirecTV is offering NFL Sunday Ticket to two-year colleges as well. Students can pay for a discounted price, $24.99 per month as opposed to the $49.99 to those outside colleges and living in areas that are unable to receive satellite service.

Games that are broadcast in the home market will be protected, but all games on CBS and Fox that are out-of-market will be available.

And in addition, NFL Sunday Ticket will be coming to the fourth-generation Apple TV set-top box. This apparently will include the Red Zone Channel. It will be available in the App Store in time for the 2016 regular season. And other set-top boxes like Chromecast, PlayStation 4, PS3, and Xbox platforms will have access to NFL Sunday Ticket as well.

So DirecTV is doing all it can to expand NFL Sunday Ticket to college students and those who can’t receive satellite service. And by bringing it to connected TV devices like Apple TV, it brings more people under the tent.

One wonders if DirecTV will try to appeal to cord cutters by offering a package specifically to them down the line. Only time will tell.
