Clay Travis Lobster

Jeff Fisher’s firing by the Los Angeles Rams Monday comes after a sea of criticism, but it’s notable that Fisher’s received that kind of criticism before. That was particularly true towards the end of his stint coaching the Tennessee Titans, who went 8-8 in 2009 and 6-10 in 2010 before Fisher was fired after the season. Fox Sports Radio personality Clay Travis was on local radio in Nashville during that time period, and he told a story Monday about how Fisher reportedly said he wanted to fight him:

“I know what it’s like to be an LA Rams fan because Jeff Fisher was the coach of the Titans for like 48 consecutive years in Nashville, and every year, he was so frustrating,” Travis said. “So I started going on the radio talking about how much Jeff Fisher sucked here, and Jeff Fisher was so unused to being challenged by anybody in the media that he told people he wanted to fight me. Jeff Fisher said “I’d like to see Clay Travis sometime in a dark alley.” Like, this is not made up, I can say it now, because he’s not in the market, whatever. Hi Jeff, I hope you’re listening in as you’re driving into work today.”

Travis continued with his reaction to the comment.

“First, I heard that and it was pretty incredible, Jeff Fisher’s old ass wheezing,” he said. “I hope his fighting style’s similar to his offense, in which case he’d probably trip and knock himself out. I mean, what would Jeff Fisher’s offense look like if you put it in an MMA ring? The dude standing over in the corner, getting loose, squirting a water bottle a couple of times, and then they’re like, okay, ‘Fight!’ and he would start to run into the ring, and he would trip and just knock himself out.”

So, that’s something. It would be great if Fisher can confirm or deny this at some point. If he confirms it, that’s a bout with PPV potential. In any case, it’s clear Travis is not amongst the many media personalities who were fans of Fisher back in 2012…
